Ok… so in my opinion, it’s pretty hard to beat Lauren and Sean’s wedding and first look on the beach!  They are just soo much fun and so in love (and so incredibly laid back) that those moments will forever stay in my heart.  BUT… I am equally excited about this second part of their first look because it includes a fire truck!  YES… a FIRE TRUCK!  How cool is that!!!  Plus the story behind the fire truck still makes me smile and giggle a little because it was kind of a tale of who’s on first for a little while involving a back hoe and me driving Sean’s big manly truck back and forth through a parking lot!  SOOO much fun for me!

We initially decided the first look on the beach should be near the fishing pier at little island and we sent Sean down.  We scheduled the fire truck to meet us about 45 minutes after the initial tap on the shoulder right in the parking lot in front of where we would be shooting.

Sadly once our groom was set in place and the first few pictures started to happen, a fellow in a back hoe started driving up and down the walk way.  My second shooters Emily and Victoria asked him politely if he wouldn’t mind just pausing a bit when the bride walked down but it just wasn’t in the cards for us.  So unaware of what was going on… Lauren and I are walking towards Sean (in the wind) while our groom is trying to come up with an alternate plan!  Since the back hoe was driving right through all of our images, we decided to move further down the beach and in between the dunes!  Change of plans… I stealthily stashed Lauren in Sean’s manly truck, stole the keys and drove her to the new location!

What we didn’t know was that Sean had already taken care of the fire truck and it was also headed down to the new location.  We just thought we would all hop in the car and drive back down.

So the first look was gorgeous!  All worked out perfectly and we even had some time to get the bridal party pictures done as well!  We started to hop back in the car when Sean told us the fire truck was heading to this side!  Except there was no truck!

Long story short… we ended up hopping back in the truck (bride in the back, bridesmaid on the lap) groomsmen in the bed of the truck and I drove us back to the original location where the truck was just pulling in!

Lauren and Sean are such naturals!  You could try posing them… but they just don’t pose!  They have a beautiful, natural way about them that just WORKS!  I love everything about this part of the day!  I love how they interacted with each other and I love how much fun they had just playing around!

Enjoy part two of their first look!

These two below… probably among my favorites of the entire day!  Lauren… you are too gorgeous for words!!!

LOVE IT!!!!  I mean… really!!!

Sharon K Barrows - Really. …these photos are amazingly beautiful as is the Bride and her leading man. The story written and shared by this incredibly talented photographer is fabulous as well.ReplyCancel

I’ve known Steve for as long as I can remember!  When I try to think back… there isn’t a time that I can think of that I didn’t know Steve.  I can’t remember when I met him or how, that’s how far back we go!  It was definitely elementary school… that I know for sure.

Steve is the kind of guy that everyone knows and loves.  He remembers the important dates… like your birthday!  He leaves you a message every now and then and makes sure to include you on anything fun he’s getting in to.  He always has a kind word or a joke to share and always a big hug!

So when I got a message from him asking if I might be available to photograph his proposal to Jessica… I squealed out loud!  I couldn’t have been more excited or BE more excited for these two!

Jessica is wonderful and the best part about her… she keeps Steve on his toes!  They are a perfect fit for each other and life for them is truly fun when they are together!  They have all the makings of a beautiful and long life together!

Steve and I talked for a few weeks about how he wanted to propose.  He knew he wanted to bring the pups along and he had already planned out a walk down at the Narrows in First Landing State Park.

It all seemed easy enough:  I would get there ahead of time and find a spot on the beach somewhere that the pups could roam free and I would hide out!  Simple right?!

Oh gosh it was so crazy that day that the story you would never believe if I shared it in full!

Let’s just say it was one of the first cooler days we have had here in Virginia Beach yet it was still a huge “beach day” for lots of people (despite the wind.)  My thoughts about finding a place earlier on before they arrived were dashed by beach goers, clean up day for the American Heritage girls, paddle board lessons and even bike riding ninja turtles!  Yep, I promise:  Ninja Turtles with full costume and shells on bikes!  X corps games were in full swing that morning and the sight was fun to see!

I knew Steve didn’t want to be on his phone all morning so I just decided to immerse myself with the American Heritage girls and wait for them to arrive!

I stealthily followed behind them, ducking behind trees and even hitting the deck at one point to avoid detection!  We ended up in a beautiful little beach clearing that was the most perfect spot!

Enjoy the images from this amazing surprise!  It is a morning I will never forget! I love all of Jessica’s facial expressions and her complete surprise at Steve on his knees! She is just so beautiful and so in love!   Congratulations Steve and Jessica!

Best Saturday Morning Ever!  Thank you both so much for letting me be a part of such a special moment!  I am truly honored and can not wait to see what these years have in store for you!

xo

And just so you can get the full idea of the crazy morning we all had…

Steve - I look back at these photos often and always think of two main things… #1, this was one of my biggest days in my life to ask the woman I love to spend the rest of my life with me… and #2, I could not have asked anyone else to have had to document this day of my life. Thank you again Brooksie!ReplyCancel

When I arrived at the Baja to meet Lauren, I knew she was going to look amazing!  She’s gorgeous (inside and out) but I had no idea just how breath taking gorgeous she was going to be!  She was beaming inside and out!  I’ve never met a bride that was as calm and collected either.  She and Claire were just spending time together as if it was just any other special day that the two of them had to themselves!  Lauren was just getting extra pampered!

I met Lauren through a mutual friend of ours (Elizabeth Friske… of Elizabeth Friske Photography) when we were both bridesmaids in her wedding!  Lauren and I became really fast friends and I’ve been extremely blessed to have the two of those girls in my lives this year.  I was extremely honored and blessed when she asked me to photograph the wedding!

Lauren and Sean are amazing together!  They are each other’s perfect fit and other half…exactly!  Since I’ve met them and spent many nights eating fish taco’s or just hanging with them going over wedding details at their house… I’ve seen them move around each other in a way that is indescribable!  They are just plain FUN and fun loving.  They have a passion for each other that is unparalleled.  The more time you spend with them, the more you fall in love with their infectious personalities and their  infectious love!

Lauren and Sean are both huge beach people!  They live and breath the salty ocean air!  It runs through their veins and I swear it’s part of the life force that keeps them going.  It runs in their hearts.  Maybe that’s what help to connect these two?!  It was never a question for them where to have their wedding.  They always knew it would be the Baja in Sandbridge!  It’s a beautiful local venue (small, sweet, fun and loving).  It has all the makings of the best time and leaving you feeling like every person you meet there is now part of your family!  It’s also across the street from the beach and the wind carries over that ocean breeze!  All in all, it’s the perfect setting for Lauren and Sean!

They chose to do their first look on the beach in between the dunes at Little Island (just a stones throw away from the venue).  We had a blast, the four of us (bridal party included) with these pictures as you will absolutely see!  The day was a bit windy but that didn’t stop us from running around on the sand and watching the few surfers in the ocean waves.  We even had a very special visit from some guys down the street in a very special truck!

Enjoy this amazing wedding filled with fun and love and laughter!  Lauren and Sean, I am beyond honored and thankful to be a part of such a beautiful day!  I am so thankful that you both have become such a big part of my life!  I couldn’t be happier for the two of you!!!

Palette of Petals worked on Lauren’s Sunflower bouquet and Floral head piece!  Aren’t they amazing?!!!

Just before putting on her dress, I caught Lauren sneaking peeks of the ceremony set up!  Her condo was a stones throw away and we could see the arc from her balcony!

Best Bridal Party EVER!

Probably my most favorite picture of a bride and her “best maid”!  This is the real Lauren and Claire!  They are always pulling faces like this… and I happen to love it!

We hustled over to get some Fire Truck Pics (coming soon… check back on Monday!) and then off to celebrate with everyone at the ceremony!

MARRIED!!!!!!  (And the best send off… beach balls!  How perfect!)

We stole just a few moments of married bliss!

Lauren and Sean LOVE their Nixon watches!  It’s their “thing” so we definitely had to capture their brand new wedding ones!  To them… these are almost just important a symbol for this day as their wedding rings!

 Time for first dances!!!

Lauren’s Father-Daughter dance was a little different!  They started out slow…. then BAM broke it down!  The whole room went crazy and ate it up!

The rest of the night was a blur of dancing, great music and loud beautiful laughter!  It was perfection and the party was perfect!
